New Puppy & Dog Care

Owning a dog provides companionship, loyalty and affection for people of all ages and is an invaluable addition to families and individuals.

As your vet, we are willing to discuss the many aspects of dog care, including breed-specific information and routine health care such as vaccinations, flea and tick control, desexing and worming.

Puppy

  • Insure your new dog
  • Routine vaccinations: the first at 6-8 weeks of age, the second at 10-12 weeks of age and the third at 14-16 weeks of age
  • Fea, tick and worming control: every 2 weeks until 2 months, then every month until 12 months
  • Socialised with people and other dogs from the time of their 2nd puppy vaccination
  • Diet: Puppy diet – Hills or Royal Canin, feeding 2-3 times per day
  • Microchipping – it is a legal requirement in NSW to register all pets with your local council – FINES APPLY

Adult dog

  • Insure your new dog. Please see our information sheet on insurance for more about this topic.
  • All pets require a minimum of one health check a year – prevention is better than cure!
  • Vaccinations every 1-3 years/li>
  • Flea, tick and worming control
  • Microchipping – it is a legal requirement in NSW to register all pets with your local council – FINES APPLY
  • Socialisation with people and other dogs
  • All dogs need daily exercise and mental stimulation to help avoid behavioural and health problems.
  • Nutrition is an important part of your dogs care. A healthy and balanced diet is essential. This will provide protein to build the body; fats for skin and coat health; carbohydrates for energy; and minerals and vitamins for good bone development and healthy tissues.
  • It is essential to keep your dogs teeth clean. A regular dental care routine will minimise tartar build-up on your pet’s teeth.
  • Grooming and brushing is essential, particularly for long-haired breeds. Puppy Insurance
